Giraavaru Lagoon Development Project

The planned development of Giraavaru Lagoon involves reclaiming 169 hectares of land to create a residential city designed to accommodate the growing population of the Greater Malé region. This new city will feature residential plots along with schools, institutional areas, commercial spaces, industrial zones, and green and recreational areas. Upon completion of this project, Giraavaru will be linked to the Greater Malé region through a bridge that will connect it to other cities in the area.
Project Milestones
- Finalization of Land Use Plan for the residential city
- Completion of Reclamation Phase 1, 2 and 3
- Signing of contractor financing agreement with CMC for the project
- Commencing of Reclamation works
- Entered into an agreement with CMC for the engineering, procurement, and construction for the project
- Completion and submission of EIA
- Completion of Bathymetric Survey
- Signing of MoU with CNEEC or the development of a residential city in Giraavaru
