Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Commencement of Hankede Integrated Tourism Development Project

In a landmark event held today in Addu City, the foundation stone for the Hankede Integrated Tourism Development Project was officially laid by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan. This momentous occasion marks the commencement of what is set to be the largest tourism development initiative in the city’s history.

With an investment of USD 142.9 million, the Hankede project is poised to drive sustainable growth and advancement in Addu City's tourism sector. The project is designed to transform the city’s tourism landscape, introducing a wide array of new facilities and services.
Minister Ihusaan emphasized that this project represents the realization of a long-held vision for Addu City. He noted that practical work is expected to begin within two weeks and highlighted the project's potential to generate approximately 3,000 new job opportunities, further supporting local economic development.

The Maldives Fund Management Corporation has entrusted China National Electric Engineering Company (CNEEC) with the development of this ambitious project. Following the agreements signed on March 23, 2023, CNEEC will oversee the engineering, procurement, and construction phases required to bring this vision to life.

The Hankede Integrated Tourism Development Project promises to be a transformative endeavor for Addu City, setting a new benchmark for sustainable tourism development in the region.
